- After 19 years, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau makes the first official state visit to the United States as the leader of the country with the purpose of announcing new pledges of cooperation on climate change.
- On March 10, 2016, Justin Trudeau and his wife Mrs. Sophia Grégoire met with U.S. President Barack Obama and the First Lady Michelle Obama and the two leaders met to discuss the climate crisis and what their respective countries will do about it.
- Some of these promises included Canada and the US formally committing to the Paris Agreement, the announcement to build a sustainable Arctic economy, efforts to make their shared borders more open and secure through expanding airports in Toronto & Quebec and rail services in Montreal and Vancouver, along with efforts to improve trade between the nations.
