The Confederation of Tomorrow Survey of Canadians has released a report updating the status of public opinion about support for the process of reconciliation. The Brian Mulroney Institute of Government is a proud partner in the study along with the First Nations Financial Management Board, the Canada-West Foundation, The Centre of Excellence on the Canadian Federation, and the Centre D’Analyse Politique – Constitution et Fédéralisme. The survey was conducted by the Environics Institute for Survey Research.
The Confederation of Tomorrow surveyed Canadians regarding their thoughts on reconciliation. The surveys were completed between January and March 2024. The majority of responses were collected online; the remaining responses were collected via telephone from respondents living in the North or on First Nations reserves. The surveys noted a small but noticeable improvement in Canadians’ perspective on relations between Indigenous and non-Indigenous people and reconciliation. An increasing proportion of Canadians describe relations between the two groups as good, and most Canadians continue to be optimistic about the future of reconciliation, in terms of seeing meaningful progress in their lifetimes.
