The Confederation of Tomorrow Survey of Canadians has released a report exploring different types of identity in Canada and attachment to Canada. The Brian Mulroney Institute of Government is a proud partner in the study along with the First Nations Financial Management Board, the Canada-West Foundation, The Centre of Excellence on the Canadian Federation, and the Centre D’Analyse Politique – Constitution et Fédéralisme. The survey was conducted by the Environics Institute for Survey Research.
The Confederation of Tomorrow surveyed Canadians regarding their thoughts on different types of identity and attachments. The surveys were completed between January and April 2024. The majority of responses were collected online; the remaining responses were collected via telephone from respondents living in the North or on First Nations reserves. The surveys asked about attachment to and identification with Canada and one’s province or territory. It also asked Indigenous peoples about their attachment to their Indigenous nation or community. The survey confirms, in general, most Canadians feel attached to both Canada and to their province or territory. Most Indigenous peoples in Canada also feel attached to both their Indigenous nation or community and to Canada.
