COVID-19 Transmission
- This report contains the information discussed by the Chief Science Advisor Expert Panel on COVID-19 regarding how SARS-CoV-2 impacts indoor air quality and how the bioaerosol transmission of the virus and how knowledge of this kind can help in the reopening of schools.
- Throughout two discussions, the expert panel observed that the main method of the virus transmission is through close contact through droplets or aerosols, however, transmission is still possible through longer distances but the reasons to how this occurs is still largely unknown.
- With discussions around opening up schools safely, the panel outlined the importance of ventilation systems in controlling air contaminants and potentially mitigating COVID-19 transmission but in some cases improving ventilation is not possible.
- This report gives considerations to improving ventilation and air quality for both the short and long term and outlines further research that must be done.
