COVID-19: Standing Committee on Industry, Science, and Technology
- This is a speech by Dr. Mona Nemer, the Chief Science Advisor of Canada, at the Standing Committee on Industry, Science, and Technology (INDU) in February, 2021.
- In this speech, Dr. Nemer spoke about her early pandemic approaches of creating task forces and panels to encourage collective research by distinguished practitioners and researchers, how her team began focusing on the vaccine route in combatting the virus, her international collaboration, and the thorough research into the vaccines against COVID-19.
- This speech also contains Dr. Nemer's concerns regarding the lack of therapeutic development (both for vaccines and drugs) within the country, which has been a known problem for decades but she ends her speech advocating for the need to strengthen our biomanufacturing capacity in order to be prepared for future health crises.
