The Gradual Enfranchisement Act (1869)
- The Gradual Enfranchisement Act (1869) was a continuation of The Gradual Civilization Act (1857) through enfranchisement.
- This act included several policies some of which include giving the Superintendent General of Indian Affairs absolute control over status Indians, the creation of elected band council system, land ownership restrictions, changes to the definition of Indian status, and provisions which revoked Indian status from Indigenous women who married someone without a status.
- This act was later superseded by the Indian Act.
