Loyalists
- Loyalist and post-loyalist immigration into Canada from the United States (from around 1783-1812) established and strengthened some of the earliest linkages between Canada and the US.
- The term 'Loyalist' means an American colonist who remained loyal to the British Crown, many of which served alongside Britain in the American Revolution.
- During this time, tens of thousands of Loyalists moved to the Canadian Maritime provinces, and some fled to what is now known as Quebec and Ontario.
- Some argue the forming of Canada's nationhood emerged from the American Revolution and the subsequent exodus of Loyalist Americans to Canada.
- This publication by Library and Archives Canada contains several sources relating to the United Empire Loyalists who settled in Canada following the American Revolution.
