Danny Graham, Chief Engagement Officer, Engage Nova Scotia will draw on his decades of leadership in Nova Scotia on issues of disabilities rights, poverty law, restorative justice, politics, gambling policy, Mi’kmaq reconciliation, and economic development — and most recently well-being and happiness policy — to frame an approach to a successful society that leaves fewer people behind. He will show how Nova Scotia is equipped to be a leader in this area and how Engage Nova Scotia is working with local and global leaders to bring to life a breakthrough method to measure and improve quality of life for everyone.

Since graduating from StFX 40 years ago, Danny Graham has worked and volunteered in many sectors. He is credited with starting the Nova Scotia Restorative Justice Program and has worked to advance justice reforms with the United Nations and countries spanning four continents. He was the MLA for Halifax Citadel and leader of the Nova Scotia Liberal Party from 2002 to 2005. After leaving politics, Mr. Graham was the lead negotiator on Mi’kmaq reconciliation for the Government of Nova Scotia for ten years. For the past decade, he has been the chief engagement officer for Engage Nova Scotia (https://engagenovascotia.ca). The work of Engage Nova Scotia is part of a global movement to measure and improve well-being for everyone. Engage Nova Scotia is increasingly being recognized nationally and internationally as one of the leading programs in this field. It has built new tools to easily extract the findings of their large quality of life survey at groundbreakingly hyper-local and demographically intersectional levels. Partners in all sectors, and all levels of government, are now beginning to rely on this approach to undertake more effective strategy, policy, measurement, and budget decisions.
