The Dean of Arts and the Brian Mulroney Institute of Government are hosting a fireside chat with Dr. Gregory P. Marchildon (University of Toronto) on his new book, Tommy Douglas and the Quest for Medicare in Canada. The book examines the history of universal health care through the life of Canadian politician Tommy Douglas, identifying the key moments and decisions that led to the establishment Medicare in Canada.

Gregory P. Marchildon
Gregory P. Marchildon is Professor Emeritus at the University of Toronto and the founding director of the North American Observatory on Health Systems and Politics. He has written extensively on 20th-century Canadian history and contemporary public policy including comparative health politics and policy. His latest book Tommy Douglas and the Quest for Medicare in Canada (University of Toronto Press) is the culmination of many years of research and writing. A member of the Order of Canada and a fellow of the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences, he is an avid canoeist and cyclist.
