The Brian Mulroney Institute of Government and the StFX Students’ Union will be hosting a debate for the candidates running for mayor in the Town of Antigonish. All students and members of the campus and Antigonish community are welcome to attend to learn more about the candidates’ platforms, as well as to hear from Returning Officer Allan Armsworthy on how to register and prepare to vote in the upcoming municipal election.

Questions will be fielded and selected prior to the debate. Please submit your questions to the Mulroney Institute (mulinst@stfx.ca) by noon on Friday, October 4.

Sean Cameron

Sean Cameron

Sean Cameron is a lifelong resident of the Town of Antigonish. He is a third generation of StFX students, along with six brothers and sisters who are also X grads. Sean is employed by the Province of Nova Scotia and is presently an inspector with the Department of Community Services. Sean is married to Emmy, and their two adult children are both graduates of StFX. Sean was first elected in 2000 for a seat on Town Council and left in 2016. He was re-elected in 2020 and has now stepped up to run for the Mayor’s seat, as the incumbent has stepped away.

Emilie Chiasson is a community leader with vision and charisma. She is a member of the StFX class of 2002, and the Manager of Annual Giving and Alumni Engagement in our Advancement Department. A natural relationship-builder with a genuine interest in people, Emilie is focused on building others up. Her Caring for our Community campaign focuses on communication, connection, collaboration, community, creativity, and celebration.
