The Alberta Human Rights Act

  • Alberta introduced its first Human Rights Act in 1966, however, this legislation was replaced in 1972 by the Individual's Rights Protection Act and the Alberta Bill of Rights.
  • These prior policies helped build the framework for the Alberta Human Rights Act, which is the legislation used today.

The Quebec Human Rights Commission

  • The Quebec Human Rights Commission was established under the Quebec Charter of Human Rights and Freedoms in 1976.
  • The Commission is an independent body from the government and remains accountable to citizens to uphold the right set out in the Charter.
  • The Commission's mission is to inform the public of their rights, undergo investigations of discrimination and exploitation case
